Hopes of a return for Cowes’ Chip Ahoy appear to be over as the current owner has launched a planning application to turn the former chip ship into a 2 bedroom house.
Mr Andrew Pritchard is seeking to convert the former chippy into a 2-bed residential premises.
Located on Victoria Road in Cowes – opposite Moorgreen Road – Chip Ahoy closed its doors back in September 2022. Current owner Mr Pritchard then turned the fryers back on in April 2023 before closing again at the end of 2023.
Having been vacant for almost a year, the application now states that Chip Ahoy is no longer commercially viable due to continued energy and supply chain price increases which have rendered the business ‘ineffective’.
As part of the change, an open plan living/dining area would be situated on the ground floor alongside an attached kitchen whilst 2 bedrooms and a bathroom would be located on the lower ground floor.
Anyone wishing to comment on the application should do so by 1st November quoting 24/01471/3MAPA.

Such a shame all these businesses are going to the wall, all the increases in everything has just gone out of control it can’t go on.
and what with the labour government as well,
we’re doomed
I don’t think you can blame the labour government for this one Melly. I think having another chippy at the other end of the road probably didn’t help.
