The works to repair a burst water main on Lake Hill in Sandown have been completed this morning (Friday) however the road is to remain closed until 15:00 this afternoon.
As first reported by Island Echo, Southern Water were called in at around 10:00 yesterday morning (Thursday).
Island Roads closed the road from 10:30 forcing all traffic to divert via Perowne Way, again.
It was just over 30 days ago that Lake Hill opened again after being closed since February to allow for repairs to be carried out on the railway bridge above the road. With those roads overrunning, motorists and locals endured constant traffic chaos as all motorists – including buses and trucks – had to navigate the narrow and windy housing estate.
Southern Water has now confirmed that works have been completed, however works to reinstate the carriageway before the road can reopen will take some time.
No timeframe has been given for this.
A Southern Water spokesperson has said:
“Due to the nature of the work, this required a road closure. We’re sorry for the disruption this is causing residents, businesses and visitors.
Article continues below this advertisement “The repair is now complete, however work continues on reinstating the road so it is in good condition.
“Tackling leaks and bursts is a major priority for us, last year we repaired 20,000 leaks alone. We aim to complete the majority of visible leaks within the same day or next working day.”
UPDATE @ 11:17 – Southern Water have confirmed that they hope to open the road again by 15:00 this afternoon.

Has the road actually been opened yet???
Perowne way needs all speed humps removed and use the road as a relief road to ease pressure on at the heights traffic lights etc.
Share the burden of traffic.
Why don’t these water companies actually repair full sections of pipe rather where the burst is as it will only burst again in its next weakest area.
