UPDATED: A burst water main in Wootton, which is causing supply issues from Newport to Ryde, has resulted in the closure of Wootton Primary School this afternoon (Thursday).
Parents have been asked to collect children as soon as possible as the school has been instructed to close.
It’s understood the water main has gone at Palmers Road.
A Southern Water spokesperson has said:
“Our team is on the way to investigate and make the necessary repairs.
“Sometimes repairs take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience”.
UPDATE @ 14:05 – Southern Water have confirmed that there has been a second burst at Medina College in Newport.
Engineers are working to repair the 12 inch main, but it is unknown when this will be completed.
UPDATE @ 16:02 – Southern Water have confirmed water should now be restored to all affected customers on the Island.
They’ve taken to Twitter to say:
“We’d like to thank our customers again for their understanding”.
