After completing a rescue demonstration with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat at the Sandown Bay Regatta this afternoon (Sunday), Bembridge RNLI were tasked to assist a broken down 28ft motor boat with one person on board.
The casualty vessel was off Bembridge Ledge suffering with gearbox failure when the relief lifeboat ‘Frank & Anne Wilkinson’ was tasked to assist at 15:37. Making good time from Sandown Bay, the Lifeboat was alongside the casualty in just 7 minutes. Bembridge’s mechanic was transferred to the casualty however the severity of the problem could not be solved whilst at sea.
Having set up a tow, the Tamar class lifeboat proceed towards Cowes before rendezvousing with Cowes RNLI Lifeboat near Fishbourne, where the tow was transferred to the Cowes crew at 16:38. The vessel was towed to the River Medina.
