PICTURE GALLERY: Despite the horrendous weather this week, the rain cleared for a bright Ryde Main Carnival yesterday evening (Thursday), which saw a vibrant and strong mix of entries.
The annual procession, which moved off at a more traditional time of 19:00, featured an array of floats, costumes and entertainers with a noticeably stronger entry this year.
Crowds lined the streets of Ryde to enjoy the delights of the carnival with queens from Ryde, Newport, Sandown, Shanklin, St Helens and Ventnor all attending, following the normal route from the Esplanade, up Dover Street to Park Road, the High Street and back down Union Street to the Esplanade. The Illuminated procession will follow the same route moving off at 20:30 on Saturday 5th September.
Medina Marching Band – the only marching band in the procession – led the way followed by the Ryde Carnival Queens. Joining them included The Wight Strollers with their OAP ballet dancers and St Mary’s Primary School with their Pied Pipers of Ryde.
The carnival circus moves to St Helens on Bank Holiday Monday, moving off at 18:30.
