UPDATED: Police, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard have been called to the discovery of a body on the shore at Totland this morning (Monday).

Officers arrived on scene at around 08:30 following a call from a concerned member of the public.

A stretch of beach close to Totland Pier has been cordoned off whilst Coastguard officers from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team assist Police in recovering the body.

Detectives from Newport CID are also on scene.

UPDATE @ 10:05 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the body is that of a man.

The deceased male has been recovered from rocks on the beach by HM Coastguard and Lymington RNLI Lifeboat.

A forensic examiner has arrived at Madiera Road to document the discovery.

UPDATE @ 12:07 – Police say the body is that of a man in his 40s.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened and to contact the man’s family.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
