Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has said he will be voting for Liz Truss in the battle between her and Rishi Sunak to become the country’s next Prime Minister.
Truss will be hoping to put her name in the history books by becoming the 3rd ever female Prime Minister.
Mr Seely has confirmed his support for the current Foreign Secretary, although he originally voted for Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt.
Liz Truss visited the Isle of Wight for the first time in May 2019 when she enjoyed a walk along the beach at Compton and sampled local produce – all whilst being hosted by Seely.
Speaking this week, Bob Seely MP has said:
“I’ve been asked if I am supporting any other candidate now that Penny Mordaunt has gone out. Penny was a great candidate, and I was sorry to see her leave the contest.
“I will be voting for Liz Truss in the final two.
“There’s much to be proud of in the work that the Government has done in the past few years: such as the furlough scheme which saved millions of jobs during Covid and the vaccine roll-out.
“On the Island, we have got more than £100 million additional capital investment over the past few years: in St Mary’s hospital, in Island Line and more committed to the IW College. We’ve also had Government support for a new heavy lift vessel crane in East Cowes that will create new jobs and wider opportunities in shipbuilding on the Island.
“However, there’s more to do. We now need to grow the economy whilst dealing with inflation and the cost of living problems facing families. We need to help get more people back in work and focus on NHS waiting lists. Abroad, we need to be more proactive in dealing with threats to our freedom and way of life from rising authoritarian states such as Russia and China.
“I believe that Liz will be the candidate best able to deal with those issues.
“Regardless of whoever becomes leader, I will continue to help secure a better deal for the Isle of Wight.”

They all seem to answer to the WEF…
In any other sphere this would be the kiss of death. But this is British politics…
Well Bob we aren’t doing any of that. Thanks to you and your chums we have to listen to you bleat on about another tory leader. Without an election they are no Prime Minister of mine either.
Is it wise for Bob to broadcast who he will be voting for?
Wow bet Liz is over the moon!!
Is Bob Sleazy getting his CV in first … for the new cabinet ?? Surely not ..
This is the man who supported the liar Boris Johnson, that’s when he lost my vote.
This is the Liz Truss who has announced that she wants to save £9 billion by making public sector workers have their pay set locally rather than nationally.
Good luck getting any healthcare when that hits the Island. We can’t get enough healthcare workers to come to the Island as it is, let alone if their pay is set to match local private sector pay.
When do we get our vote? What we don’t? Ah that is right, the people don’t get democracy or PR yet the Tories use PR for the leadership elections. Go figure.
Its a party election not a general election .to vote in a party election you must be a paid up member .
In a general election you are voting for a party not an individual anyway.
Most people vote in a General Election based on who they will get as a Prime Minister and that Prime Minister’s policies.
Having a new PM foisted on us by a tiny minority of people who all have the same political bent is as undemocratic as it comes.
An IT system for the hospital that doesn’t work and investment in a private enterprise (railway). This is not, in any way shape or form, the promised “Island Deal”.
Does anyone believe this overt liar and his equally duplicitous Tory chums. Disgusting people. Disgusting party.
Do you actually think that another party would be any different? They are all liars who will tell you they will do one thing and then do the exact opposite. It doesn’t matter what party you vote for, they are all the same.
Considering this is the most incompetent, self-serving and dishonest Government this country has seen in the last 100 years then, yes, I’d say that another party would almost certainly be better.
How much better is a moot point as, as you say, all politicians are self-serving at heart, but anything has to be better than any more of the current rabble.
Well, maybe not Farage’s loonies (who the Tories are aping), but Labour, Lib-Dems, Greens, would all be an improvement.
Another cheap (sweat free) headline grab from Bob, but hang on….didn’t he support Penny Whatsherface recently? Seems he’s still making poor decisions for us. Good job he’s not our MP……oh.
Nose wipes all round
Kiss arse creep!!! Yuk!!!
She probably told him she would ban all imports of cheese in favour of UK made cheese!
You do know that if Truss becomes PM that the NHS will be instantly privatised don’t you, Seldom?
Yes, of course you do – as a dyed-in-the-wool selfish Tory, it’s exactly what you’ve always wanted.
I see Truss has U-turned on her idea to introduce local pay bargaining for public sector workers, saying people had been “unnecessarily worried about my policies”.
No Liz. People aren’t nearly worried enough.
Like most populist politicians she plays on the fears of the great unwashed while viciously shafting them. She can do this because they’d rather believe a lie that satisfies their own prejudices than anything remotely like the truth, and are happy to be shafted themselves as long as they think the object of the ire (immigrants, “wokes”, etc) are getting a bigger shafting.
Truly sad and pathetic.
Given his track record on backing losers, she must be very nervous
Of course he will, wants to stay in a job. Self-serving grub. What a gruesome twosome they make in that picture. YUK
