Fire crews from Newport are inspecting a boat amid fears a fire has broken out on board.
2 appliances are currently on scene at Island Harbour, on the banks of the River Medina, where the motor boat is berthed at B pontoon.
There are no obvious signs of fire but a thermal imaging camera is being used to check for any hot spots.
2 people have evacuated the vessel and appear uninjured.
This incident comes immediately after a car fire on the main Newport to Cowes road, which both Newport crews had only just stood down from.
UPDATE @ 13:00 – An inspection of the boat has failed to locate a fire, with firefighters now de-kitting and standing down from the incident.

So no visible fire yet they suspect a fire… guys I think we might need back up here there could be a fire lol
Hi, I am the skipper of the boat and we had smoke pouring out of the engine bay as we’re about to depart. Turns out the engine blew a gasket and it was exhaust fumes from the 5 ltr V8. But with 130 litres of fuel on board it was a precaution to call the fire service who were excellent. But you are right there could have been a fire so my calls on ch80 to the lock master were a tad panicky. All crew safe though.
Thanks
Risto
A fire? Anyone see any smoke- that’s usually a big giveaway…
There was a lot of acrid smoke when the engine blew and it was still in the engine bay when the fire service arrived. Not a fun experience.
