Firefighters have been tackling what is thought to be a caravan fire in a field in the Ninham area of Shanklin tonight (Friday).
2 appliances from Sandown and Ryde are on scene off Ninham Farm Lane – a stones throw from Landguard Holiday Park.
Hose reel jets have been used to douse the blaze, which has sent smoke billowing across the Shanklin area – enough to be seen from Sandown.
The alarm was raised at around 21:15.
It’s understood the caravan was located within the remains of a derelict barn.
The incident is now under control and fire crews are preparing to stand down.

Expect more arson as the state funded (via us) universal credit little angels have six weeks off and the parent or more rarely parents who are paid to look after them don’t bother. As they are happy to allow them to do as they please so long as they get the free house, c tax and hundreds for doing little.
I expect it provided entertainment for a group of bored state funded kids, destroying others property.
Perhaps we ought to limit the amount paid out now to just one child, then only mostly wanted children would be born who are far less likely to end up being vile and we would likely get far less new arrivals floating this way too. A win win.
Was this someone living in it illegally or an arson attack I wonder?
Static caravans don’t self combust in poor weather especially.
An awful lot of people taking the weak law and useless council into their own hands now living illegally in caravans and vehicles, many down the Spithead car park at the Point in Bembridge, giving the area a tardy, unkempt image for the better quality visitor who often frequents the shore there.
This was an unused caravan stored in an already burnt out barn.
Wasn’t at Ninham, technically Landguard
Thanks for the info Oliver, so likely arson then, or are we to believe a bottle stored in front of the glass suddenly caused a fire so as to keep criminal unsolved incidents low for the Police records?
