A busy main road between Blackwater and Rookley has been closed after a cable fell onto the carriageway this afternoon (Thursday).
Several police units are in attendance at the scene near Radcliffe’s Fruit and Veg farm shop at Blackwater Junction, with the road closed in both directions.
The closure is expected to cause rush hour delays for those entering and leaving Newport.
It’s understood that engineers will be attending the scene in order to make safe the cable and remove it from the road.
UPDATE @ 18:15 – Island Roads have confirmed that Blackwater Hollow has been closed in both directions.
The fallen cable is believed to be a BT telecoms cable.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 01:00 – Blackwater Hollow has now reopened to traffic.
