The final league table from 1994A whole 30 years on from their ‘invincible season’, the Binstead Youth Class of 1994 is to play a reunion-friendly game this coming weekend (Sunday 28th July). During the 1994 season, the Under 10s team won all their league games finishing as runaway winners of the IW Sunday Youth League. Ferocious in attack and solid at the back they scored a mammoth 152 goals in 20 games – conceding just 5. As they got older the team remained unbeaten at Under 11 and Under 12 age as well as lifting the League Cup in ’94 and ’95. To be played at the home of Binstead COB, the Molehill, some players from the ‘invincibles’ team are making their way back to the Island from the Middle East and America respectively just to take part. The former youth team will take on a Binstead COB vets team. COB stalwart James Connor is to manage the Vets team, whilst Isle of Wight Team Manager and fellow Binstead legend Tom McInnes, who helped organise the match, is set to feature for the Youth team, which is to be managed by Bob Lavers and Callum McInnes. A BBQ – complemented with some beers – is set to follow afterwards with live music from Mike Le-Ray also on the bill. Steve Vanner, a member of the ’94 Under 10s team, and organiser of the event, has said:
“Friends, family and the entire football community are welcome to join in the celebrations.”
The game is due to start at around 11:30. Molehill is located next to Binstead Community Centre on Coniston Avenue, PO33 3SB.
