Bembridge RNLI lifeboat was launched to assist 4 people who were reported to be in the water following the sinking of their 17ft angling boat off Puckpool this afternoon (Monday).
Although the 4 persons on board – including 3 children – were out of the water and safely on board another vessel, both Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue (GAFIRS) and Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat were called to the incident.
GAFIRS arrived 1st and transferred the casualties to their lifeboat. Then, having established that they were all fit and well and originally hailed from Bembridge, it was agreed that they would be transferred to the RNLB Frank and Anne Wilkinson All Weather Lifeboat and taken back to Bembridge where Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting.
Bembridge Lifeboat and her crew – including the 4 casualties – were back safely at 16:30.
Gosport RNLI then towed the stricken vessel to Point Beach in Bembridge where they were met by HM Coastguard who helped to secure the boat and retrieve possessions from inside.
Bembridge Harbour Master was also present to provide assistance.

One after another, it’s that time of year…Roll on Autumn, then the RNLI can continue their taxi service from France…..An Army we will all have to take on some day…
Yawn.
Boring.
Not boring but accurate and frightening.
Yet the BBC and HMG brainwashed naive choose to insult or sneer as it is not what they wish to believe and hear
Why not just comment on the story rather than spouting misinformation
Send in the coastguard, love the way the other services do all the work and the boys in blue overalls seem to take the credit and get paid over the real heroes
more people buying boats not knowing how to drive them
Bit like people buying/stealing cars, then.
Well done to Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue, and Bembridge RNLI, another great job and lucky a passing boat picked up the crew! The stricken craft looks to have capsized rather than sunk.
