A 37-year-old man has been arrested after a fire ripped through, and destroyed, a residential property in Binstead overnight (Sunday into Monday) in what is being treated as an alleged arson attack. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to Sherbourne Avenue at around 23:45 last night (Sunday) to reports of a property alight. 3 appliances from Ryde and Newport were mobilised to the scene, with crews arriving to discover flames erupting from the front door, reaching up to the height of the roof. The semi-detached home has been significantly affected, with smoke damage evident on both the ground and 1st floors. The front door has been completely destroyed as have the windows with charred net curtains now flailing around in the wind. Luckily no serious injuries occurred with 2 casualties treated for smoke inhalation before being passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Police have remained on scene all morning, guarding the scene and speaking with residents in the local area. As a result of their inquiries, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time. Island Echo understands that some locals are temporarily moving out of their homes due to fears for their safety. Police are looking at potential links with an incident that took place on the evening of Saturday (27th July) on the nearby Broadway Crescent, despite the fact that the main suspect – also a man aged 37 – has been released without charge. A Police spokesperson has said:
“The investigation remains ongoing, and we ask that anyone with information about this incident report it to police on 101, quoting 44240321574.”

RE-OPEN CAMP HILL PRISON
I don’t recognise our country anymore, it’s becoming more violent every day. Stabbings all the time, and for telling the truth, Tommy Robinson gets arrested for terrorism, after a none violent March of true patriotic March last Saturday….Time people stopped being indoctrinated by the corrupt mainstream media, Wake Up…
There are two big problems in the country that do not get discussed. One is the damage from Brexit and the other is the rise in influence of the Muslim group. Even when MP Ashworth gets chased down the street by Muslim Vote supporters little is said and little is done.
Don’t mention Brexit and you avoid Leaver condemnation. Say nothing about the illegal activities of Muslim Vote members and you can’t be called a racist. Pretend these matters don’t exist and you get yourself off the hook. The media choice.
What you can do is go after anything you consider right-wing, because that’s the traditional scapegoat. It’s well established in the public mind and invites little criticism. The equivalent of the ‘dead cat’ deflection.
Definitely right.Mainstream media is all lies. There’s plenty of other avenues of information reporting the truth
Yet another troll trying to link a completely unrelated event to immigration.
Hope Vlad is paying you well.
The Isle of Wight was a lovely place to live, now look at it! Nothing but a dump! I wouldn’t ever come back
I wouldn’t leave a place if it was lovely, I presume you live somewhere nicer.
Wait until the enriching type responsible for Rochdale, Rotherham and now Southport arrive to add to our ever increasing vilest imaginable crimes here.
