Armed Police were deployed to Bluebell Meadows in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), where 3 people were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary following an incident involving a handgun in Ryde.
Police say they are investigating an incident that took place at an address on Ashey Road in Ryde on Tuesday night.
At around 21:45, entry was forced to a property and threats were made towards the occupants inside by a man holding what has been described as a black handgun. No one was injured and nothing was taken.
In the hunt for the suspects, Armed Police were deployed to Flint Path off Wellesley Way at around 02:00 this morning. The operation resulted in the arrest of 3 males, all aged 29.
A witness has told Island Echo:
“I was woken up by Police shouting ‘armed police come out with your hands up’. I looked out the window and there were armed police in the garden by the back door.
“I saw 2 people come out with their hands behind their heads. Then, about 10 minutes later, we heard the police shout again that they were armed police and to come downstairs or they would send the dog up”.
The trio are currently being held on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remain in custody at this time.
Officers are now carrying out a fingertip search of the property, presumably in the hope of locating evidence or weapons.
Police say they believe the incident at Ashey was targeted and there is no risk to the wider public.
This latest incident comes less than 3 weeks after Armed Police were deployed to Sandown when a gang of men forced entry into a caravan off Perowne Way. The 2 incidents are not thought to be linked.

I hope this scum haven’t got children, however, I expect they have..
Yeah & were probably paying for them all.
Just goes to show why we need to pay extra council tax ,so the police can carry on doing their job ,just look at the local news , they are really amazing with all the crap they have to deal with .
So instead of folk criticising them ,why not be grateful that they do a job a lot of us wouldn’t want to do.
Just a thank you would be appreciate i am sure.
Yeah otherwise who would tell the families not to eat ice creams on shanklin seafront!
BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE that would sort out the all the waste of oxygen spongers. It might even make them into men… I did say might!
Instead of National service, I say we imprison all 65 million people living in the UK
Nothing wrong with Pan and the vast majority of good people who live up here. Unfortunately a small handful of scum persist in giving those who stereotype, the wrong impression of us.
Another bloody drug related incident. Drugs ruin lives. Drugs are for losers. SAY NO to drugs.
Where does it mention drugs?
A big thank you to the Police who are dealing with all this crime and dangerous behavior.
Thank you all who do this and look after us all.
