UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has been called to check over a male who has been detained by Police in Oakfield tonight (Thursday).
The suspect has been apprehended at the junction of St John’s Hill and St John’s Avenue but officers have now pulled the detainee from the back of a cell van and have called for an ambulance.
Numerous Police units have descended on the Oakfield High Street and St John’s area of Ryde for currently unknown reasons. They were called to the scene at just before 21:45.
UPDATE @ 22:25 – The man has been checked over by paramedics and is being taken to custody at Newport Police Station, as planned.
Police have now stood down from the incident.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm (ABH). He remains in custody at this time.
It comes following an alleged assault on a 25-year-old man, who received cuts and bruises.
