Fears of a fire within the museum and gift shop at Fort Victoria Country Park saw fire crews mobilised to the West Wight attraction earlier this evening (Sunday).
At around 16:45, Freshwater’s retained firefighters were mobilised to Fort Vic where they discovered what appeared to be large orange flames glowing inside.
With no clear view through frosted glass, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made entry to the building armed and ready to tackle the blaze.
However, it soon became clear that the orange glow and flame-like appearance came from a very lifelike fake fire lantern.
The light was switched off and the key holders were notified before Freshwater’s appliance was stood down.

Needs to be in an area the council want built on to be the ‘real Mc Coy’.
