An 8-mile diesel spill from Staplers Road in Newport to Great Preston Road in Ryde is being dealt with by highways operatives this lunchtime (Sunday).
A vehicle travelling from the county town and over The Downs to Ryde has leaked diesel onto the carriageway, which has then mixed with rain water on the road to create a typical multicoloured stream that makes the spill evident to other motorists.
Diesel is present on the eastbound side of the carriageway on Staplers Road, Long Lane, Downend, Mersley Down (The Downs), Ashey Road, Smallbrook Lane and partially onto Great Preston Road.
Island Roads has received multiple calls from concerned motorists reporting the trail of diesel, which stretches a total of just under 8 miles.
A sweeper is to be deployed on the above route from 12:30, with an estimated time of 2 hours to clear the spill.
Motorists are being urged to drive to road conditions in the meantime, especially motorcyclists.
It’s unconfirmed what vehicle is to blame for the spill, which is thought to have occurred sometime between 09:15 and 11:30 this morning. However, Island Echo understands a coach travelling to Ryde may be to blame.
One expects the spite filled S.A charming lady to ‘blame’ the Van or yellow Corsa parked on the pavement of Great Preston road to be the cause.
All done under others names of course as too afraid to use her own.

i noticed a diesel spill in ryde the other day, its someone who knows they are leaking the trail zig zagged along many streets and all the way to tesco, not a direct route it looked like they had purposly driven down loads of roads then gone back the other way to tesco…all not far from great preston road…

That is an understatement when you are on a motorbike and need to change direction slightly.
If the vehicle who coursed this mess is found, the driver and or company should be given the bill for the clean up….no ifs or buts…
But, IF it were an accident which it likely is for no-one spills Diesel at the price it now is since we have ‘helped’ Ukraine (merely prolonged their suffering in a war they can never win) then it is hardly the drivers fault.
It could be some sank drilled holes in the tank of that nice builders van always parked outside the council houses, in an attempt to prevent the parking on the pavement, as feelings there are high from some foreign tenant with driveway and home ownership jealousy.
So there NEEDS to be if’s or buts, as life isn’t black and white.

You don’t need to be a bloodhound to trace the vehicle, it must have stopped somewhere, either run out of fuel or parked up sat in a pool of smelly diesel.
At the Rainbows end the Grey VW van, or yellow Corsa will be found, the cause and blame for all the woes of road problems according to the great Sud African sage of the tenanted council houses of said Great Preston road.

Nobody has mentioned that fuel spillage can be death to motorcyclists.
