Members of Ryde based strength and conditioning gym, CrossFit Incursion, performed 60,000 burpees on Saturday, 3rd August in an effort to raise vital funds for the Mountbatten Hospice., Isle of Wight.
Around 70 hearty revellers hit the sand of Appley beach at 9:30 to take on the challenge, with an amazing £4090.76 raised for the charity through donations.
Camilla Barton, who co-owns the gym with Nolan Hermans, said:
“We want to thank everyone for all their burpee efforts, and all family, friends and passers by for generously donating. The challenge took nearly 4 hours with each participant completing between 100 – 1150 burpees, depending on their fitness level.
“There were a few achy bodies afterwards, but everyone enjoyed themselves and did their best – it was an awesome team effort from the CrossFit Incursion community, for an amazing cause.”
Both Camilla and Nolan wish to place on record their thanks to everyone who took part or donated to the challenge, now in its fifth year. As the Island’s CrossFit community continues to expand, so too do targets and numbers of participants.
Harri McNeil, Community Fundraising Assistant, said:
“Thank you so much for arranging such a huge event, we really appreciate your support! The money raised will make such a huge difference to island patients and their families.”
