Ofwat has confirmed that the average Isle of Wight household’s water bill will be going up by as much as 53% over the next 5 years.
The regulator has set out how much water companies can invest in their networks between now and 2030, and how that will be funded through customer bills.
Southern Water customers will be hit the hardest out of all 11 water and wastewater companies in the country. But it could have been a lot worse… Southern Water was seeking an 83% increase.
By 2029-30, the average Southern Water customer will be paying £642 a year for their water and wastewater – an increase of 53% or £222 from the current £420.
Lawrence Gosden, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Water, has said:
“We note Ofwat’s publication of its Final Determination for 2025-2030. It’s important that we take time now to review all the detail carefully, as we seek to understand the level of support the regulator has shown for our ambitious investment plan.
“We’re very conscious that a rise in bills isn’t easy for our customers, essential though it is to delivering the improved performance and infrastructure that’s required. So we’re significantly expanding the wide range of support available for those customers who are most in need.
“Our plan was driven by the views of thousands of Southern Water customers. That’s why we need to be sure that what’s been set out in Ofwat’s Final Determination meets the expectations of our communities — in protecting the environment and building a truly resilient network for future generations.

What about supplying us with decent water that doesn’t taste like a gob full of bleach, and using our money you are charging us for water being returned for treatment, instead of dumping it in the sea

NO standing charges.
Let’s hope Ofcom sort out the Water Companies.
