The occupants of a car have escaped with their lives after a wooden post penetrated the windscreen of the vehicle after careering off the road and through a fence at Arreton this evening (Thursday).
Emergency services are currently on scene on the main road between Newport and Arreton, where a Mitsubishi Colt has left the road and come to a stop in a field used to grow turf.
It’s understood the vehicle crashed off the carriageway near the Merstone turn off and smashed through a wooden fence at around 19:00.
Shocking images reveal how the post entered the vehicle at an angle through the windscreen on the driver’s side, ripping the dashboard apart and exiting through the passenger front window, narrowly missing the driver and passenger.
Stunned emergency responders have expressed their shock at the situation, with it evident that 30cm in a different direction and the passenger would most likely have been killed.
Amazingly though, the occupants have managed to walk away from the single vehicle crash.
A male is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, but his injuries are not deemed to be serious or life-threatening.
The car is being recovered.

….Nice !
Great post 😀
What is going on?Love this bit of road from shide to apse heath. An experienced driver like me will do between80 to120 in this area. However this bend needs full concentration and a max of70mph.Slow down you muppets before somebody gets seriously injured your pushing my insurance up again.
That’s where the speed camera should be then.
Mummy & Daddy left you with the laptop again you saddo.
Both my parents are dead you thoughtless muppet they did when i was 5 18years ago.
So you have a chip on your shoulder!!!
And you still haven’t grown up you dipstick.
Top ragebait post
Cue humourless replies from people too dim to recognise japery.
Please enlighten us to your age and driving experience or possibly the licenses that you hold. It would seem that you are just a childish brainless keyboard warrior. I myself have had 50+ years of incident free driving, my licences include Full car, Full motorcycle, HGV class 1 and all types PSV. I was also a Driving Assessor for a national company for some 20 years assessing staff on all types of vehicles. When a village idiot makes stupid repeatable comments like you do I feel sorry that the island has inbreds like yourself wasting their oxygen.
You must be one of the coffin dodgers out there on the roads.what do you mean licenses?I tought myself to drive and have had no accidents or near misses.Proud openers are all W%nk%r/s in my book.
Your young aggressive anger will be the end of you, calm down it’s not worth it….
Shame your education didn’t work. As I mentioned in an earlier you are just an immature keyboard warrior.
So you learnt to drive a car illegally, cocky runt.
you stupid idiot
20s plenty 40s naughty
It’s knobheads like you that need to have your license taken away. Seriously, boyracers like you are more lethal than the older drivers. Know where you keep your brains…. numbnut
Ur just metal and have no idea how to drive get back behind the wheel when you learnt how to
Oh yes, the sharp right hand bend if taken too quickly will, as these people have discovered, end up going straight into Hillcroft Turf supplies field! Why do people drive too fast on this island? It’s only a small island with many small country roads. Glad both occupants escaped without injury…or death!
The most fortunate thing is these likely speeding OR unlucky beings never killed or injured any innocent people.
Seen a motor like this being driven like an f1 car around the island by a youngish looking male.He might have felt the need for speed but now he needs to find an affordable insurance policy.
A very lucky escape indeed. In fact, I seem to recall somebody crashing into that same piece of fencing not many years ago.
Yes it was a Bus that ended up in the field, it was coming from the other direction though
No it wasn’t the bus incident, it was a year or two prior to that. But either way, it’s a corner you certainly don’t want to lose concentration over. Slow or not.
Quite true, drop down a gear . and slow down
Saw a vehicle this evening driving past the Rock Shop
along Beachfield Road Sandown doing I would estimate 70mph+
NO LAW AND ORDER ON ISLAND ROADS
Is the person local?? Doubt it, locals know to slow down on that bend. Very lucky no one was injured? SLOW DOWN IDIOTS!!
I hope the turf is ok ?
“A clear case of, ambition ahead of adhesion”.
That plank was evidently sharper than the vehicle occupants, morons.
Head line should have been….Car Crash…3 planks involved.
More idiots will be along soon….
Makes you wonder what people get upto in their cars when they are supposed to be driving with their eyes on the road.
Looking at the comments i would say this was only a matter of time sounds like a young driver racing around
This beats the knife throwing act on Britain’s Got Talent. Sign them up!
Some real final destination stuff going on here
Was this the result of some kind of turf war?
