Firefighters have responded to reports of 3 teenagers stuck in swings designed for children at a park in Cowes this evening (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call a short time ago reporting that the teens were stuck in baby swings.
Fire Control have blasted the situation saying that it is a waste of both time and resources, with an attached cost to the community. The fire service is obliged to attend for ‘humanitarian reasons’.
Island Echo understands that the incident has occurred at the recreation ground off Park Road with 1 retained appliance from Cowes in attendance.
Under current COVID restrictions the teenagers should not be meeting in a group.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – it has been confirmed that all 3 teens were released using hand tools.
Make their parents pay the cost of repairs to the swings, the cost of the emergency services. The teenages should do some sort of community service as well.
Should be made to pay for being so selfish and stupid!!!!

Charge them for the call out of emergency services, charge them for any damage caused to the park equipment, then prosecute them for the offence of breaking the covid restrictions.

These selfish individuals should have been left there to suffer for a while – poor kids now have to go without until the IOW Council eventually get round to repairing/replacing them. Utter stupidity

Plod does nothing, if they want more in the council tax rip off hike, we want to see more results dealing with these feral brats. Start with those all along Ryde esplanade doing wheelies against the traffic on their bikes, and those in the Hover craft car park on skate boards.

You bet any money you like, this will be laughed about and applauded at their school tomorrow. And who pays for the repairs? Ultimately, younger children have had their play equipment vandalised. A criminal act has been committed, and the culprits are on scene – result. But unfortunately, nothing will actually happen and these teens won’t receive any punishments either.
The same kids pulled the same prank a few months ago, after watching it on tiktok.
This is disgusting they should be heavily fined, nothing happened before hence they have done it again.
I hope someone wasn’t burning in a building whilst these jokers were being freed by fire fighters, I would of left them overnight in situ…bet they wouldn’t find it so funny the 3rd time round

Personally, I’d of left them there and fined them. It’s idiots like that who flout the rules and don’t give a toss which is holding us up from being released from lockdown. Morons do not deserve sympathy..

They have been meeting up throughout the entire lock down period. seing groups of four to six walking about is not uncommon in ryde. Hanging about in the park with their mates too. Also a lot of parents meeting at the play grounds for play dates mixing and eating pack lunches. Zero social distancing and plenty of covid passing. If you want to blame someone for your pub being closed, blame these idiots that are preventing the spread rate falling.
They should have left them there till they lost a bit of weight.
