Cross-Solent travel is once again in the spotlight as Wightlink has cancelled several of its Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry sailings today (Monday), with Red Funnel announcing cancellations on its vehicle ferry service for New Year’s Eve.
Wightlink has pulled at least 8 sailings today – for reasons unknown. There has been no usual communication about the disruption.
The 10:30, 12:30, 14:30 and 16:30 sailings from Portsmouth Gunwharf have been cancelled, alongside the 11:30, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30 sailings from Fishbourne.
Red Funnel is not without its own troubles… it has been announced that the e04:30 vehicle ferry sailing from Southampton has been cancelled for tomorrow (tuesday), as has the 06:00 from East Cowes.
It’s said that essential maintenance needs to be carried out on Red Osprey.
It’s known that the vessel is limping along with its engines thought to be in a similar state to that of Red Falcon’s, which has had to have all 16 pistons replaced whilst in drydock. MV Red Falcon is not expected back in the Solent until mid-January, as previously reported by Island Echo.

same ol same ol..roll on 2025 for the same crap service.
Just imagine if Red funnel & wightlink were in charge of the Royal Navy….
It’d be almost as bad as the CONservatives ….
(“Well only go into battle if you pay loads of money to out shareholders.”)
Time for a bridge or Tunnel.
Dinghy’s from France have no problem running
their services on a daily basis.
Both ferry companies are a total embarrassment. Fix the boats fix the toilets. How hard can it be.

This might have been done by Persons Unknown. Beware!
Maybe it’s because the extortionate ferry fares
are keeping passengers away, bit like the
Hovercraft.
When Quigley said he would sort the Ferries in 100 days,
did he mean his last 100 days in office before Labour are
voted out at the next election!.
His name is hardly Quickly
Lol
The Channel offers a better service
Dinghy’s entering the country have no running issues.
Maybe M igrants should run the Ferries, a much
more reliable service in ALL weather conditions
Lol
Absolutely no sensitivity to the adults and kids that have died in the channel. Shame on you!
Of course it is sad, but the authorities
in France and UK let them cross, they
could easily control the borders to save lives,
but for some reason the authorities choose not too.
When will we get the fixed link that this island has needed for so long
The island needs a Mayor like Khan
(Khan is a Do’er) he would get a fixed link
done by 2030
The Numpty’s running the island can’t
even STOP vehicles speeding!
So we have no chance, I am thinking of
moving off this backward island.
