2 women were arrested at gunpoint near Newport last night (Saturday) following an aggravated burglary in Ventnor, which led to 2 men being injured, Island Echo can reveal.
Police were deployed to Lowtherville Road in Upper Ventnor at 18:30 following reports of a burglary in progress at Rayners – a block of flats near the Free School.
It was reported that a group of people had forced entry to the address and were in possession of weapons, which led to the deployment of Armed Police from both sides of the Solent, as previously reported.
Police will not disclose what the weapons were.
A 36-year-old man and a 33-year-old man both sustained minor injuries in the incident. They were taken to hospital for assessment.
Armed Response Officers soon began a hunt for a black BMW 1-series, which was located and tailed before being brought to a dramatic stop at Blackwater Junction on the outskirts of Newport.
The suspect vehicle was blocked in before Armed Police took aim and ordered 2 females in the car to exit the vehicle. They were both cuffed.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the 2 women, both aged 22 and from Newport, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent.
A 25-year-old man from Ventnor has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent – although Police say the men sustained only minor injuries.
Last night Island Echo reported on the emergency response to Upper Ventnor, with local residents claiming a stabbing had occurred.
All 3 currently remain in police custody.
UPDATE MONDAY – All 3 suspects have been bailed whilst enquiries continue, Police have confirmed.

More dragged up scumbags will be along soon…..
Makes a change from sandown scum bags
More feral inbred scum.Dont the islanders get taught anything at school. Ie about being a citizenship. Laws .How to behave in life.Bring back corperal punishment.
Judging by the state of your comment, I’m going to assume you didn’t learn much in school either.
Islanders? Don’t you think this goes on everywhere and especially a lot more often in major cities? Small minded comment.
It’s not small minded to say it as it is, people are frustrated by the level of violence in this country. Stop defining this culture of violence, it’s got out of control and getting worse by the day…
Teachers in schools are there to educate and to teach children the three R’s . The young learn how to build relationships, and never to disrespect other people and their property – from their parents.
Trouble is, some parents are scumbags themselves….
