Armed Police have descended on Upper Ventnor tonight (Saturday) following an incident at a block of flats in Lowtherville.
It was shortly before 19:15 that officers arrived in the vicinity of Rayners on Lowtherville Road, accompanied by multiple resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo is told by local residents that the armed response was amid reports of an unconfirmed stabbing – but Police are yet to comment on the circumstances of the incident.
It is known that Armed Response Officers from the mainland were drafted in, arriving at Ryde Pier Head around 19:30. However, they have not been present in Ventnor.
Emergency services are now standing down from the scene but there remains a presence at the block of flats at the centre of tonight’s incident.
A premises is being secured by a Police contractor.
At least 1 male has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, but his injuries are not life threatening.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – Police have confirmed that 3 people have been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Ventnor, which led to 2 males being injured.

I suppose our Armed Response Officer was on his tea break
Armed officers having to come from the mainland is not acceptable. Criminals know this and I’m sure they take advantage of it. What is the Police & Crime Commissioner doing about safer policing on the island?
She is reopening more police stations and putting more officers on the beat in Island towns, as reported in various news media.
The mainland armed response unit was to backfill the officers who were deployed. Nothing unusual in that. But I’m sure an expert like you knows different.
We have armed police stationed on the island
They are stationed by James garage in Newport 🙂
Any updates? Has he been arrested yet, it’s disgusting what’s he’s done especially because there is children in them flats
Was it the guy who lives there who did the stabbing or the one who was stabbed?
Shut up he’s hurt you melt
That place has always been a dumping ground for the lazy good for nothings. Spending their child benefits on drugs & alcohol. The social housing system needs overhauling. Anyone having their bills paid for by the hard working members of society for any more than two years, should just be evicted. The simple thought of that threat would make some if not all, get up & go to work in the mornings & pay their way. Then maybe they would start to learn to respect people, property & possessions. They would soon learn drink & drugs don’t work!
My son met a lady on Saturday who was saying she was moving into a lovely flat in upper Ventnor… when he asked where she said Raynors…oops! I hope she reads this and refuses the tenancy, or cancels the sale. I feel so sorry for the nice folk who live there (and there are a lot of nice folk), they are doomed by a couple of families who should be evicted, but of course they will get resources thrown at them due to their alcohol/drug problems and damn those who just want a quiet life. It is time that Housing associations took some responsibility for the toxic tennants they place in these areas.
I’m meant to be moving into a flat here soon so it might be me you’re talking about if not I also hope she sees this too. after seeing all this and having a toddler I’m declining my offer to move here. I just wanted somewhere safe :/
AN extremely sensible decision on your behalf. Upper Ventnor has been a wonderful place to live, we have been here over 25 years and the recent changes in tenants have started to erode what we had. There have been problems with being criticised for not being ‘Islanders’ by a small group of idiots, but never the crimes we have been seeing of late. You can ignore the un-christian attitudes and make your own friends, but villains push their way into every aspect of our lives, and time and time again we see these folk being protected by our landlords instead of being removed and, as a result, we now see weekly incidents of violence and crime as we become the Islands sinkhole for the uneducated, unlawful, unruly and downright dangerous.
National service and make people work no work no money simples to many layabout and it’s a free for all that’s not good for mental health bring back national service that’s good for discipline and your own self pride
Lack of self respect nowadays joke
Was you ever in the army?
Ofcourse ventnor . Southern vectis bus.
Lowtheville seems to house a lot of low class types, I pity the poor families who get housed there and have to lock their doors from these scumbags. Must be like Oakfield or certain areas of Newport where child abuse is ignored and in some cases celebrated.
Please explain what a’low class type’ is?
Sadly you come across rather foolish. ‘CHILD ABUSE CELEBRATED’ I hope you have gone to the police and the Islandecho investigates.
