Police on the Isle of Wight have seized 2 cars being illegally driven on the Island this afternoon (Tuesday).
The first seizure was a BMW 1 Series on West Street in Newport after the driver was found to have no insurance, no licence and was suspected to be drug driving. They remain in custody.
The second, a silver Honda Civic, was seized on Morton Road in Brading after the driver was found to be driving without insurance.

Nice beemer wanna sell it ?
No, they will need it to continue driving while banned.
It’s been seized donut! Read the article…
Yes but for £125 they can go with a friend and collect and drive later. Not often they get crushed.
Don’t worry mate, I understand the concept of “sarcasm” and “joke” even if nobody else here does.
Paul is right, unless evidence of driving whilst under the influence of drug/alcohol or another traffic offence whilst banned, still driving appears to be ok until caught. If reported to the police, evidence must be sort …..
If you can only afford a 1 series you should probably just still take the bus…
Considering a 135i for example is a 41/42k car for top spec, hardly in the Hyundai i10 price range. What an oddly entitled thing to comment with ?!?
I dare say that the police could find a lot more if they asked the public.
Or drove round Asda/Tesco carpark with ANPR!
Shame but I don’t think the shops will allow that. Whilst waiting for the other half I have done some checks on cars parked at sainsburrys. More than you would think had n MOT. I was shocked.
A good place to hang out near the petrol stations. Plenty of time to check their plates before they leave.
Is there ANPR on the Island ?
Yes there is. 1 at the bottom of lushington hill. 1 by the lights near the junction of beeper shute and carpenters road. There use to be 1 in East Cowes and along blackwater road. I’m sure I’ve seen some more dotted about.
Can’t work that well.
I know an Island reg that’s been driving around with NO MOT for over 7 months and still doing so.
Island Traffic Law could not catch a cold, yet alone a motorist with NO
MOT
SHOCKING
good old iow drivers
No if’s or but’s, any car found being driven without insurance should automatically be crushe, if they have a crash it is the honest insured driver who suffers and these filth don’t care.
But if worth money should be allowed to auction off and money used for more ANPR cameras, I remember being in mainland Sainsbury’s fuel station and you could see cars number plate highlighted at each pump on screens behind till, all had green box except one which was red, I asked why and they said ANPR had alerted something. I asked what they do ? ,- nothing unless customer not pay as have dozens come through everyday.
Shame there is not a .gov website that people could check if vehicle insured,,, similar to checking mot and tax…

So many vehiclesdrive around the Island with out of date MOTs
No one catches them
ANPR cameras are a great crime prevention tool, and a good detection aidl.
Lets get more ANPR cars and a few fixed cameras.
Only those with something to hie will object.
CHECK Ryde MCDonald car park saturday night .Ther is moore like this ones.
Seized and should be sold on, especially if old car as there is a shortage apparently so should get a good price. Hit them where it hurts and they may remember in future, bit like having a new pet or child, also known as learn from your mistakes.
What a bunch of nosey and sad people on this site,
Why can’t you all just mind your own business ?
If instead of taking from the pot, you actually paid in to society, then you too would find paying for others crimes WAS ‘your business.
Doubt you ever will be in that position though.
I’m surprised they got caught given how slack and worthless the police are on the island if not the country they seem too busy harassing inocent people and sitting in publicly owned police vehicles in car parks drinking coffee while getting paid with public money to do so to catch offenders
Why are there always loads of police after an incident? All standing around, hands in pockets, plenty.of tape everywhere, guarding some poor persons home after they’ve been murdered. Be better if they got out their and prevented the crime in the first place. Not individual cops fault just a poor system from.the top.
Two down 2000 to go!
Maybe the police will now consider pulling up the illegal noisy hot rods, racing around the Island at all hours of the day and night.
