381e397b-50de-4eb6-b93c-76bb4ee31908Emergency services have been involved in a 2-hour operation to treat and stretcher away an unwell woman squatting inside the derelict Ocean Hotel in Sandown.

It was at around 19:30 that firefighters, paramedics and Police were called to the Esplanade at Sandown to reports of a woman being taken unwell – thought to be a suspected drug overdose.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised a paramedic crew to the scene, with support from Shanklin’s retained firefighters and Police.

Shortly before 21:20, firefighters from Sandown were also mobilised to the scene and forced entry to the eyesore building. This allowed ease-of-egress for the patient, who was then stretchered into an awaiting ambulance.

It’s understood the woman has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The Ocean Hotel has come back under the spotlight in recent weeks with several incidents involving those living in, or exploring, the former hotel. The building is subject to an ongoing Crown Court case.

You knuckle dragging potato head.To many of your lot are taking up housing and claiming all the benefits under the sun.You lot don’t work.Just sit down the front all day drinking. And breeding feral scum just to be like you. Pathetic.

England does not have enough homes or resources either.
Over 20 thousand migrants have arrived by boat this year so far, taxpayers are paying millions each day to keep them in hotels.
Maybe this lady should pretend she has just come over in a dinghy and she will be housed and cared for.

What a disgusting thing to say You should be ashamed,I pray you may or any one you love ever gets into a situation of overdosing and not being able to cope emotionally. What a ridiculous judgemental derogatory label ‘Scum’ is. I hope she get all the mental health treatment and proper support and shelter. Things WE are all entitled too.

Well said Steve. We don’t often agree on some things, but on this subject we do. Too many lazy scroungers around today who will not work and expect us(who have worked) to support them.

How fortunate many of us have a clean bed to sleep in, clean bathroom to shower in and a warm comfortable house to live in. Hope this lady recovers quickly no matter how she became unwell.

I don’t regard it as ‘fortunate’ that I have a clean bed to sleep in etc. It’s down to the fact that I, like the vast majority of us, have worked hard throughout our lives so that we have the clean bathrooms, showers and comfortable houses to live in. That’s not ‘fortune’, it’s down to making the right choices in life. Drug taking is rarely the right choice.

There’s many reasons why people can end up homeless but far less reasons why people end up taking drugs and, eventually, overdosing. They don’t have to go hand-in-hand.

I, like all of us, hope she recovers but, further to that, I hope she learns from this and manages, with help, to get her life back on track.

The IWCC should seek a compulsory purchase order for the site of this derelict building, demolish it and then sell the prime land off for development. It is an eyesore that is blighting the reputation of Sandown as a family resort. I am pretty sure it would be a near cost neutral exercise, would bring some additional employment and help regeneration

There comes a time when the cost of looking after people who abuse drugs becomes too much for our public services, this is not like any other illness where people actually wish to be cured, I appreciate the lifestyle of a drug abuser is a complicated one, but it is a perpetual and never ending cycle of treatment, relapse and more treatment, I believe that the mental ability of a drug user is not sufficent for them to make rational decisions for themesleves in a similar way as those that suffer from serious mental illness, they should be removed from society to secure facilities to allow a more complete and long term treatment plan to be put in place.

Luckily when you squat somewhere you have no bills to worry about and can spend more of your benefits on fags, booze and drugs – also a good place to stash anything you have nicked from local shops – don’t worry though as there’s always a bleeding heart liberal out there willing to make excuses for you – the same sort of liberal that will rail against homelessness but then wave open borders signs calling for millions to be allowed in, it makes them feel all virtuous
