2 cars have left the road – 1 coming to rest on its side – on Brading Downs Road this morning (Friday).
Icy conditions overnight are thought to be behind the incident, which has occurred at the highest point of the downland between Mersley Downs and Brading.
1 vehicle has left the carriageway and has come to a stop in a field, with the 2nd vehicle rolling onto its side on a bank having also left the road.
Police and paramedics are currently on scene, but it has been confirmed no serious injuries have been sustained.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised fire crews to the scene, but with all occupants out of their vehicles, appliances have now been stood down.
The road remains open in both directions but motorists are urged to take extra care when travelling on the Island’s roads this morning with temperatures sitting at -2c in places.
Recovery has been arranged.
Meanwhile, in Newport, police and paramedics have been in attendance at a crash involving a motorcycle on Fairlee Road.
Police and paramedics were called at 06:00 to reports of a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Does not surprise me at all, last night I witnessed 4 cars racing up there, usual brainless chavs, you can spoil your own Christmas but not ours, get some policing up there, instead of sitting at desks doing paperwork.
I reported the first accident and was on scene for the second car, neither driver was going especially fast to my mind. Sadly it was simple bad luck and incredibly icy conditions on the road.
Luckily neither driver appeared injured, and when the emergency services finally arrived both were up and walking and speaking with the police. Hopefully their vehicles can be recovered and the repairs aren’t too costly!!
This stretch does seem to have more than its fair share of accidents, there have been a few occasions where cars have ended up in that particular field! :S
Thought the ‘Clowncil’ gritters have been out a couple of times this week?
When grit is needed in really bad conditions there will be none left!
‘Clowncil’ gritters – seriously! EVERY night not just a ‘couple of times’ These people are out all hours of the night after a days work when you are cosy asleep in your beds. You should be thanking them, shame on you!
So they’re breaking driving hours laws then?
Agreed 11-30 last night there were lot’s of idiots not driving to conditions around the Downs and Ventnor and clearly ice could be seen. These are the speeders that destroy lives not those doing 45 in a 40!
Even at 40 to 45 mph during without regard to road conditions can be dangerous with some drivers!
I think what fredie ment was cops would rather catch someone just over the speed limit and don’t worry too much about the idiots driving like loony’s
Fingers crossed everyone is ok.
Well done and thanks again to our amazing emergency services.
Slow down and stay safe out the Caulkheadz.
Don’t forget usually other members of public that help at first, dealing with casualties, calling emergency services and warning/directing traffic etc these heroes are always over looked.
That’s all very well thanking our emergency service and wishing the idiots to be ok, however, mostly these crashes are self inflicted, and putting innocent drivers at risk..
It’s amazing how modern cars have the technology that protects drivers when crashes happen..
If you’d bothered to read the comments you’d have seen that neither drivers were reckless.
I used that road around 30 minutes before this crash, I didn’t have a problem along with other drivers….so it doesn’t matter how many times I read this story, I believe it was self inflicted..
I can assure you my son is not an idiot, he is a family man and was on his way to work as a delivery driver ensuring you get your deliveries to you. Thank you for your concern though and hope you don’t have the same misfortune
Should know how to drive then really, like the thousand cars that took the same journey without crashing. Bad driving that’s it.
So you weren’t actually there at the time so didn’t see the accident.
If you’d care to consider science. 30 minutes is enough time for frost to lay and extra ice to form.
Unless you witness the event you can only speculate. So you were lucky on this occasion. Hopefully when it’s your turn it hurts like a bitch..

Even with all the ‘bells & whistles ‘ on modern card they are not idiot proof!
I can assure you my son is not an idiot, he is a family man and was on his way to work as a delivery driver ensuring you get your deliveries to you. Thank you for your concern though and hope you don’t have the same misfortune
Why r people so nasty this is a lady’s son for gods sake am glad he OK we aren’t all vacant of kindness sense and emotion.
So was the yorkshire ripper whats that got to do with it…still bad driver..
I can assure you my son is not an idiot, he is a family man and was on his way to work as a delivery driver ensuring you get your deliveries to you. Thank you for your concern though and hope you don’t have the same misfortune
Glad all is ok, especially thos time off year, remember to all though there is a lot of black ice about
Not just ice
I’m surprised there wasn’t a crash last night along whiteleybank when a car overtook another near the roundabout on a bend just after I passed it. Morons in this world.
No mention of speeding or chavs, sometimes accidents do happen, you don’t have to be speeding to slip on ice and leave the road.
Glad to hear that everyone escaped with no major injuries and again, brilliant work by the emergency services and first responders.
It is treacherous out there this morning. Slow down everyone. You see idiots not slowing down at all. On my way to work yesterday morning, cars still flying along Beaper Shute. Don’t they realise roads get icy and slippery so they need to adjust their driving accordingly?
Let’s hope the drivers involved learn from this experience….
No mention as to whether the road had been gritted ??
They certainly were
Nothing to do with the accident, but please people its winter now,put your sodding lights on .
We are saving energy and our expensive batteries
Are they trying to safe on road fund licence by taking to the green stuff instead of black?
The road fund licence was abolished in 1936
Just after half past seven?
Every winter it’s the same thing. Just slow down to 20-30mph if roads are icy and treacherous. Simples.
