A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting 2 Police constables in the execution of their duty following an incident on Pan Meadows in Newport last night (Monday).
Police were called just before 21:30 to reports of a man and a woman fighting in the street on Wellesley Way. Officers attended and attempted to deal with the situation, but in the process 2 officers were assaulted.
A 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Newport, were arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. The woman was also arrested for a public order offence, and the man was also arrested for obstructing a police officer in their duty.
The duo remain in custody at this time.
Firefighters from Newport were also in attendance at the scene but it has been confirmed that this was in relation to a separate incident. According to fire control, 1 appliance was mobilised to reports of a fire in the open which turned out to be controlled burning.
UPDATE – The pair have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Looks like you cant have a row with your misses now… but who called the police to waste time and get this situation worse??
Spot on
The police are only trying to defuse the situation & achieve an orderly outcome. So many domestic outbursts result in physical harm, the police are only trying to help. Give them a break.
Domestic situations should be priority. Domestic violence goes both ways.
“cant have a row with your misses now”
In the street bouncing of peoples cars, no you can not!
Classy couple, take it inside
£10 fine and job done
A couple more low life’s inbreds
Police officers are not paid to be assaulted and abused. Anyone assaulting a public servant of any type should get a custodial sentence.
I don’t Subscribe to the prisons are full philosophy. Build more and create some jobs.
A few people with no respect af all for the rest of us are responsible for most crime and do not benefit from help and support because of their defiant attitude .
The longer they are in prison the less the crime and it’s devastating consequences on society
Simples.
Hear hear should take the benefit money off them as well… Send them to do a few months fruit picking.. Hard labour might teach them a bit of humility..
public servant – the police should remember that, when they are next dictating about when I go out and what i do.
Only 10 pounds at least make it worth arresting them.
Knock hell out of each other but don’t assault the police, they have to deal with situations like this, there only doing their job.
If that’s the case why attack the people that are trying to help? ♀️
Back in the 70s the coppers would have laid in and given them a kicking .ahh the good old days .
They should have broken the guys jaw, and sterilised the pair so we don’t have to pay for more of their clones in the future. Charity kept spongers we can be sure. Drugs, tattoos, tons of scattered off spring all paid for by the state. Total low life, with its clones kept from cradle to grave, and nothing but a nuisance to all in between those regretfully long events.
we dont have the seventies now but i wish did, caught doing wrong local bobby would give you a clip around the ear and when you got home dad would give you another one,but today that would be classed as abuse,we are too soft, but what is the answer to all this,
Has lockdown ended then ?? Certainly lots of ‘racers’ whipping around side streets in noisy cars and motorbikes , that have non standard exhausts, causing backfires and louder than necessary noise, which in turn is polluting our air even more. The speed limit may be 30 mph, but does not mean you have to do 30mph. Or get to 30mph as quick as possible.
I heard about one vehicle every 10 to 15 seconds go past my place the other day for hours on end. Then a police car pulled up and parked. The driver sat there for an hour, not one vehicle came by in that time, minutes after that police car left, back to normal rat run again…this goes on every day…! ( except the police car sadly. Shame they cannot just park one there and leave it..!) Bring back the cardboard police cutouts !
What a sad man you really are you must be a bundle of joy to live by
