2 teenagers cut off by the tide on one of the most remote stretches of Isle of Wight coastline have been rescued by Cowes RNLI this evening (Wednesday).
The teens, both 15-years-old, found themselves in difficulty in the vicinity of Norris Castle at the most northerly point of the Island.
Solent Coastguard paged Cowes RNLI lifeboat to launch, with the volunteer crew touching the water at 18:46 and arriving on scene with the teens by 19:00.
They were located around half way between East Cowes Esplanade and Osborne Bay.
At the same time, Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked to provide further assistance; the later of the teams having to leave Ventnor Carnival to attend.
After transferring the casualties onto the inshore lifeboat, the pair were taken to the Grid Iron at East Cowes where Coastguard Rescue Officers were waiting.
Thankfully, the teens are none the worse for their experience.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

So the Cowes people had in hand within 14 minutes. Why was it necessary to have Bembridge and Ventnor tearing across the Island to assist ?
Probably the goons they have doing the bodge jobs on norris castle
Glad they are safe bit of a death trap around that area.
Well done to the rescue team.
Haven’t heard anymore news on the progress of norris castle after being given limited time to get the works done correctly, come on island echo update the story on wether the corrupt norris castle investors did the jobs up to standards or did the council fine them?
Stuck!?! Just climb back along the wall and jump down from the castle… used to do it all the time as a nipper!
Yes golly a
lotof East Cowes lads did the same
You never really appreciate the RNLI until you need their help. Island schools should teach kids about the potential dangers of tidal/current movements.
