The Government is to invest just over £12,000 to improve sports facilities across the Isle of Wight.
The funding comes as part of a £68million investment programme to support more than 1,700 new and improved multi-sports grassroots facilities across the UK – with a particular focus on increasing participation among underrepresented groups such as women and girls, and those with a disability.
Island sporting facilities to benefit from the investment include Brighstone Recreation Ground, home to ladies football club Wight Eagles FC, and Steyne Park where Bembridge Youth FC play. Both will benefit from new goalposts. The Peter Henry Ground, home to Brading Town Football Club will also benefit from new fencing.
Welcoming the additional investment in Island sporting facilities, Bob Seely MP has said:
“Grassroots facilities are essential for nurturing future sporting talent and encouraging people to get active which benefits their physical and mental wellbeing.
“I’m delighted these three Isle of Wight sports clubs will benefit from this additional investment. Well done to all those who submitted bids.”
I hope the goal posts at Bembridge will not be made of wood. If they are then they are unlikely to survive long given the local youths history of setting fire to things.
I bet a large proportion of this £12,000, will be spent on all of the new 40 mph signs for Newport’s new ground!
Wow!! We get just £12K out of a £68 million fund. I suppose that might pay to renew the white lines around a couple of football pitches. Typical of our fast failing ‘Alliance’ council.
