A new case of COVID-19 has been recorded on the Isle of Wight bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 201.
Official statistics from Public Health England state that 201 individuals have been received a positive lab-confirmed test results, meaning the infection rate is now 142.0.
Anecdotal evidence from a number of sources suggests that there have been many more cases recorded on the Island in the past week than has been officially listed, which has sparked some confusion.
NHS England say there have been no new hospital deaths recorded since 25th May, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The number of deaths in the community linked to the coronavirus now sits at 39 – more than the number of deaths in hospital (38). Earlier today it was reported that 6 more people have died within care homes on the Island recently.
The total Isle of Wight COVID-19 death toll is 77.

This is just so frustrating, seriously, how hard can it really be to get some proper figures
Whats really going on ? Where have all the jobs gone ?
Well if there are many more cases why aren’t they being released, people need to know, 9 days after the lockdown was eased isn’t that a suprise, NOT. Come on St Marys tell the truth for once.
That is only “Hearsay” from people who think they have had the symptoms. The problem is that every person who has had Man Flu, or a heavy Cold, think they have had Covid 19.
Without confirmation by a positive test for Covid 19, it is unhelpful and confusing for other Island residents.
How very true, Artful, not sure whether it is a case of bragging on how ‘they’ managed to survive, or wishful thinking on these odd balls behalf, in the vain hope that they are now safe and immune from the killer virus.
WAIT until Winter starts, THEN you will hear everyone has it, God help employers, they will rarely see any of their staff as people ‘use’ illness as a way to have a few more weeks, as children go down with colds, but as it works in their favour adults take full advantage of such, for once, being oh so caring to avoid spreading it. Yet wouldn’t avoid the pub if they were open.
Every body hide its coming for us again
Top class journalism as always, ‘anecdotal evidence’ ? probably somebody on the bus, I cannot envisage anything from a trusted source would be passed to the Island Echo.
How can cases be recorded and not listed. Scaremongering again, 1 case or 1 death headline news, no cases or deaths nothing for 7 days.
At rhe very least this is irresponsible reporting. Don’t just include a line on unreported cases without some factual basis or logic that suggests further investigation is needed. The Echo should explain itself otherwise it just comes across as a throwaway comment that only serves to frighten Island communities.
……annnnnddddd we’re back
I cannot believe there are not more virus victims on the Island. I went to Honnor and Jeffrey at Lake today and there was no protective equipment at the till and not one of the staff were wearing any protection.
You bad man ron fancy going out and living ur life tut tut
No one tells the truth.. What exactly are they hiding
There hiding Alot more than this and there so much more to come
Will the whole truth ever be released? I think not.
Everyone in authority appears to be answering questions without actually answering the question and praising how well they are doing ! ! !
