A 58-year-old man has tragically died – and another person has been left with life-threatening injuries – after a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a car on the outskirts of Wootton yesterday (Monday), Police have confirmed.
A multitude of resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Briddlesford Road at just gone 15:10 yesterday afternoon (Monday) to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a Kawasaki motorbike and a Ford Kuga.
Such was the severity of the collision, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was immediately scrambled from its Thruxton base, landing in a field adjacent to the crash scene outside Briddlesford Farm.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of bystanders and the emergency services, nothing could be done to save the life of the rider, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have confirmed that the families of those involved are being supported by specialist officers.
The pillion passenger – a 53-year-old woman – received urgent treatment at the roadside and was airlifted directly to the Major Trauma Unit in Southampton.
In the hours that followed the crash, the mainland-based Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) conducted a thorough examination of the scene to piece together exactly how the crash occurred. The road has since reopened.
Yesterday’s fatal incident came within a matter of hours of 2 other collisions, in which a car crashed into a tree and another crashed into a lamppost.
An appeal for any information has now been launched.
A Police spokesperson has said:

Thesedays it seems to be too easy for anyone to
get a motorbike and just stick on L plates and
ride on island roads, a disaster waiting too happen.

This was a friend of mine. He was a lovely fella and, for your information a very experienced motorcyclist. I hope none of his family see your disgusting comments. I am a friend of the gentleman involved. He was an experienced motorcyclist and was not ‘driving around on an L plate’.
