1 person is receiving treatment at Southampton General Hospital for serious injuries sustained in a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the outskirts of Newport late last night (Saturday).
It was at around 23:45 that emergency services – including Police, fire and ambulance crews – were mobilised to Whitehouse Road, near Porchfield, when an Audi TT left the carriageway.
It’s thought the car – travelling towards Forest Road at the time – veered across the road, clipped a tree and rebounded to the correct side of the carriageway.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled from its base at Thruxton, landing in a field beside the crash scene shortly after midnight.
Flying medics spent around 75 minutes on the ground before airlifting 1 person to Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre, where they remain this morning.
The extent of the injuries sustained by a second occupant of the vehicle are unknown at this time.
Police closed the road between Coleman’s Lane and Bunts Hill as medics tended to the injured and initial investigations were carried out.
Whitehouse Road has since reopened.
UPDATE @ 10:07 – It has been confirmed that the driver of the Audi, a man in his 30s from Newport, and his passenger, a man in his 20s from Freshwater, were both taken to hospital with injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing at this time.
Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 101, quoting reference 44240555233.
Going to fast were we .oh well there you go..
Another waste of the Emergency services time
as if they ain’t busy enough, yet alone having
to attend to Numpty’s
Another island Road where uneducated Numpty’s
drive at speed.
This now puts a burden on the NHS, who are permanently
overwhelmed.
If accidents are down to wreckless driving, then the person
causing the accident should be made to pay the medical bill.
In the mean time due to the island having accident after
accident on a daily basis.
IW Council should start putting in safety measure along such Roads
SO SPEEDING CANNOT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
Cllr Jordan have you not heard of Speed Humps, they exist on the
Mainland.
THEY SAVE LIVES
Shurely if the car was damaged badly it could not have been a wreckless incident, EIE? I see you’re now getting into CAPITALS. Does this mean you’ll be using green ink soon?
And a gold address label
