LUNCH was enjoyed in the glorious sunshine this afternoon when a thousand children from across the Island sat down for a bumper meal at Appley Park, Ryde.
The fabulous weather held out for the event, part of the nation-wide Big Lunch, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
A 100ft table, that sat over 120 children at a time, hosted a mix of all-time favourite cakes, sweets and crisps for the Island’s youngsters served by vintage style waitresses.
Live music and coverage of the Thames’ celebrations in London entertained many, as thousands enjoyed the variety of bars, food outlets, fun and games at the seaside location.
Motor enthusiasts were treated to a collection of Lambretta scooters on display for the Jubilee Lambretta Day, which started in Newport this morning.
The celebrations continued tomorrow with a Hovercraft and inshore rescue display at 13:00, continued fun and games and a beacon lighting with fireworks at 22:00.
