A young gull has died just days after he was reportedly kicked by a group of teenagers in Church Litten Park over the weekend.
The incident is said to have taken place on Sunday 31st August, when the gull was seen being attacked by teenagers in the Newport park. The bird was later rescued and taken into care at Skippers Sanctuary, but despite efforts to comfort and protect it, it has since passed away.
The incident has been reported to Police. It remains unclear what action, if any, will be taken.
A spokesperson from Wootton-based Skippers Sanctuary has said:
“I am absolutely heartbroken to report that the young gull who was seen to be kicked by teenagers in Church Litten Park on Sunday has died.
“He was very frightened when he arrived, but I hope he understood that he was safe for the short time he was here.”
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
I pray these scumbags suffer the same feat!
Animals do no one any harm.

What utter scum that did this. There was a group of teenagers causing problems outside McDs that day – picking on and kicking a lad. McDs called the Police. I spoke to staff about it as wondered if they’d rung it in as I was about to. These teens are feral nasty thugs. I find it both saddening and very worrying about behaviours so often displayed these days with seemingly no action taken. With no fear of punishment/the law and with no morals or sense of decency, these yobs will just get worse and worse.
The country is becoming lawless, bring back Borstals
for such numpties and re-introduce national service.

I saw a holiday maker kick a gull sitting on the sea wall in Sandown, really viciously, I don’t like bird poo on my car or washing but no normal person would deliberately hurt an animal,nasty scum.
These scumbags are lucky I didn’t catch them. Lets hope they get punished for this as they are just bullies. Punishment fit for these louts….. how about 6 weeks boot camp at a military training college. A good old sergeant major would sort them out and drum some discipline into them.
As much as I dislike seagulls what type of sicko gets pleasure from this type of senseless act. I know, someone with physo traits who will no doubt go on to further more extreme acts of violence against other defenceless birds and animals. Maybe they need a bit of the same treatment meted out to them!!

How did they ever come to think of doing such a thing. They must have learned the behaviour somewhere so where were their parents and why were they not guiding them. So many of the ills in our society seem to stem from people simply not knowing right from wrong which is a concept most of us were taught by our parents from the cradle onwards.
