Young Enterprise and Wightlink are teaming up for the second year running to host a floating Christmas trade fair for Island students taking part in this year’s prestigious Young Enterprise business competition.
There are nine Young Enterprise teams on the Island, all of which will be aboard the St Clare, Wightlink’s flagship ferry, on Saturday 7th December.
The ship sails from Fishbourne to Portsmouth and the Young Enterprise companies will be on board for six crossings, between 10:00 and 16:00, selling Christmas-themed products. Greetings cards, seasonal confectionery and novelty gifts will be among the items on offer, and ‘Innovation’ – the company from the Island Innovation VI Form Campus – will be running a human fruit machine game with a festive twist.
The students will also be given the opportunity to visit the ship’s bridge as guests of the skipper, to find out more about the running of the ship and ask questions of the crew.
Young Enterprise is a not-for-profit business and enterprise education charity, which operates in schools throughout the UK, encouraging young people aged 16-18 to learn about running a business by experiencing it first-hand.
The young people that take part are challenged to set up and run their own company for one year, designing, marketing and selling a product in an attempt to generate profits.
The Wightlink Christmas Trade Fair is a chance for the companies to experience selling their products to the public, all the while spreading some seasonal cheer in the run-up to Christmas.
