Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat, the Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), went to the assistance of a 30ft motorboat with engine failure near Blackgang yesterday evening (Thursday).
Solent Coastguard tasked the Severn-class lifeboat and her crew at 19:24 – less than half an hour after they returned from assisting a yacht in the Western Solent, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The lifeboat made the journey down the back of the Wight towards St Catherine’s Point and discovered the casualty vessel – with 2 persons on board – off the South coast of the Isle of Wight near Blackgang.
A Dutch sailing yacht had initially gone to the aid of the broken down boat and established a tow. Once on scene, Yarmouth RNLI took over the tow and made the cruiser secure for the 3-hour journey back to Yarmouth.
On arrival back in Yarmouth, the RNLI established an alongside tow in order to secure the vessel to one of the harbour’s outer moorings.
Both persons on board were safe and unharmed.
Deputy Coxswain, Pete Lemonious, said:
“It is important to check that your boat is in good mechanical working order and that you have spare fuel before under taking a long passage”.

Yarmouth Lifeboat returned to her berth and was ready for service at 23:20.
