A Yarmouth man is set to take on a major cycling challenge in Glasgow after undergoing intensive treatment for bowel cancer described as almost inoperable.
Alex Stewart was diagnosed in October with stage T3cN1cM0 bowel cancer.
He has since undergone chemotherapy, brachytherapy and combined radio and chemotherapy treatment, describing the chemotherapy as nearly killing him three times and leaving him with a significant loss of strength and fitness.
Alex is now awaiting confirmation on whether his treatment has been successful.
A seasoned cyclist, he has previously completed the length of Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
He is now preparing to take on Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 challenge in Glasgow as a personal journey to rebuild both his physical and mental endurance following treatment.
At the same time, Alex is raising funds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, an Isle of Wight-based charity that supports young people affected by cancer.
