A 43-year-old woman has tragically died after falling overboard from a boat off Cowes this afternoon (Saturday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services responded to Trinity Landing in Cowes shortly after 14:00 when a female casualty was brought ashore having been found unconscious in the sea.
A Cowes Harbourmaster launch recovered the woman and alerted the Coastguard.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene and landed on the beach near Princes Green.
Despite the best efforts of air ambulance doctors, Cowes RNLI volunteers and other first aiders, the woman’s life could not be saved.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.
Police are working with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Marine Accident Investigation Bureau to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.
