Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 19-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in Merstone earlier this week and subsequently flown to Southampton General Hospital. It was on Tuesday afternoon that the teenager from Ventnor was thrown from his motorcycle in a single-vehicle collision on Merstone Lane, near to Bohemia Corner. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to the scene at around 15:50, later rushing the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital. Police were alerted at 16:29 and arrived on scene a short while later. Island Echo understands the 19-year-old has suffered abdominal injuries and is being cared for in intensive care at Southampton General Hospital – although Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has described the injuries as ‘minor’. Anyone with any information about this incident, or relevant dash cam footage, is asked to call Police on 101 quoting reference 44240075277.

Almost one crash every day.
That is because motorists know that there are no speed cameras
on the island, and plod are like gold dust, never see them.
There needs to be strict speeding rules on this
Lawless island.
It’s because of our elderly population that need retesting. Not speeding
Where does it mention the age of the driver involved in this incident? The 16year old was mentioned as having been in a separate crash. Young drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents than older ones according to official statistics. Stop giving false impressions.
Not on the island there not terrible driving standards here
“It is the second road traffic collision on Bleak Down in as many days. A 16-year-old was arrested yesterday (Monday) after fleeing from the scene of a 2-car smash less than half a mile from tonight’s incident”. Did you miss that bit, moron.
One more sad KW who can’t read with a fear of the older generation. Was it your parents who made you like that?
What is it with the wise cracks against a certain age group. Its getting very boring and insulting. Crawl or slither back under the stone you came from . Knobhead.
Plenty of youngsters roll their cars or spin off the road on bends as driving too fast. Don’t be so quick to judge the old. You will be old one day!
The police spend too much time targeting commercial vehicles for trivial matters rather than cockweasels driving too fast.
Well they don’t do a good job catching all the engineering companies,
Utility companies or Island Road vehicles that pull equipment on trailers
showing different registration plates.
Naa just shit driving..
Nige when there was speed cameras they braked befor detection zone then speeded back up you could cover the island in cameras but you wouldn’t catch many
Most days we seem to have 2,3 or more at moment…….think 4 on Saturday, that’s only the ones that make to Island Media, even more on Facebook
every day at least 1 …
Let me guess a old lperson forget to brake and caused all this
Yes, age 16…
Different car crash
What did you find to do with yourself all day, when your friends were at school?
Mr immature Stuart I think you and Kev need a break
You’ve got the wrong Stuart.
Leave my mate Stuart alone we been through a lot over years
Are you still at school with each other one of them and sharing the same crayon another.
May be best not to ask although that would account for the lack of brain-building proteins..
She should have polished those headlights, must have been impossible to see, clear lacquer, t-cut and a set of fine sanding paper, people.
She? It clearly says he in the report.
Grow up you Troll.
I love how the old drivers get so offended by the truth. It’s ok for you lot to bash the young people but it hurts when it’s returned. Just because you’ve been drving years doesn’t mean you are safe
As i said before, Grow up Troll.
Please leave the children alone your too old
It’s his age he thinks he got the right they all do when they lose there minds
Quality yet again. Drive it like you stole it no worries. My damage rating 5/10 could do better more soon please.
See the same reply as I gave to Jim Bean.
Old people should not be seen all not heard
If you manage to string a coherent sentence together we may be able to understand your comments.
English is obviously not your 1st language, if it is then you really are thick.
That’s more like it have’nt had a side/roof one for a couple of days now..back on trend more useless twats arriving soon..bleak up on bleak down..Tune in soon for another episode of twat island driving…
Not driven this road for ages . Going to give it a try later hope to check how safe it is by trying to get a ton twenty will report back my findings later. None of you inexperienced drivers to try this out though it could be dangerous.
Didn’t die… Shame…
Well hopefully it be you next time you horrible person
Drove this bit of road this evening hit a ton twenty no problem. This road seems pretty safe to me can’t understand why there has been 2 crashes here this week.Beep Beep see you laterz.
Seems an expensive dangerous way to learn to drive more carefully. Give a 10 year ban, make offenders pay all the cost of emergency services and all costs of prosecution including police and court costs.
Why should the public pay to bring criminals to justice, it’s their fault, they should stand the cost.
That’ll make the offender and potential offenders think twice.
Then a 10 year ban from driving cars but allow a moped after a year. They always reoffend if in a fast car.
the government want cars of the road and these nutters should lead the way. I don’t want them on the same roads that I use.
Shows what today’s police are really like. A casualty was FLOWN to Southampton with minor injuries.
The Police are trained for crime, not to diagnose medical problems. This guys injuries may have been internal, so not obvious to a non medical person.
Cos you know better..
get well soon nips, ignore the muppets on here.
Intensive care! That’s nowhere near miner injuries as the police call it….Hope he recovers…
How do you know the bloke is a miner?
More island idiots that can’t drive will be along soon…
With all the technology in 2024, surely the establishment
should be able to tell if speeding was the cause of such an accident.
From what I see on a day to day basis, speeding on the island
is a problem.
The NHS are overwhelmed and the more accidents that happen
puts even a further strain on the struggling NHS
They are all idiots, they have no idea how to drive safely…
To all of you who are assuming the rider was at fault or speeding, I can assure you that he wasn’t. There was another vehicle who caused it.. The riders injuries are serious and his family could do without judgmental, insensitive comments at this stressful time.
Hurrah.1 less idiot motorcycle rider on our roads.
That 1 less would be my son, who wasn’t to blame for this accident yet has severe injuries because of it, so Why don’t you wind your neck in. Clearly a keyboard warrior, because I promise you, you wouldn’t dare say that to my face!!
