Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 19-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in Merstone earlier this week and subsequently flown to Southampton General Hospital. It was on Tuesday afternoon that the teenager from Ventnor was thrown from his motorcycle in a single-vehicle collision on Merstone Lane, near to Bohemia Corner. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to the scene at around 15:50, later rushing the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital. Police were alerted at 16:29 and arrived on scene a short while later. Island Echo understands the 19-year-old has suffered abdominal injuries and is being cared for in intensive care at Southampton General Hospital – although Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has described the injuries as ‘minor’. Anyone with any information about this incident, or relevant dash cam footage, is asked to call Police on 101 quoting reference 44240075277.

That is because motorists know that there are no speed cameras
on the island, and plod are like gold dust, never see them.
There needs to be strict speeding rules on this

The police spend too much time targeting commercial vehicles for trivial matters rather than cockweasels driving too fast.

Nige when there was speed cameras they braked befor detection zone then speeded back up you could cover the island in cameras but you wouldn’t catch many

Not driven this road for ages . Going to give it a try later hope to check how safe it is by trying to get a ton twenty will report back my findings later. None of you inexperienced drivers to try this out though it could be dangerous.

Seems an expensive dangerous way to learn to drive more carefully. Give a 10 year ban, make offenders pay all the cost of emergency services and all costs of prosecution including police and court costs.
Why should the public pay to bring criminals to justice, it’s their fault, they should stand the cost.
That’ll make the offender and potential offenders think twice.
Then a 10 year ban from driving cars but allow a moped after a year. They always reoffend if in a fast car.

The Police are trained for crime, not to diagnose medical problems. This guys injuries may have been internal, so not obvious to a non medical person.

should be able to tell if speeding was the cause of such an accident.
From what I see on a day to day basis, speeding on the island
is a problem.
The NHS are overwhelmed and the more accidents that happen
puts even a further strain on the struggling NHS
They are all idiots, they have no idea how to drive safely…
To all of you who are assuming the rider was at fault or speeding, I can assure you that he wasn’t. There was another vehicle who caused it.. The riders injuries are serious and his family could do without judgmental, insensitive comments at this stressful time.
