A motorcyclist is being tended to by paramedics after coming off their bike in Merstone this afternoon (Tuesday). An ambulance crew and rapid response paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently on scene at Merstone Lane, having been called to the single-vehicle incident at around 15:50. It’s understood the motorcyclist came to rest in a hedge on a tight bend near the local RSPCA centre. The road remains open in both directions, although larger vehicles – such as Southern Vectis buses – cannot pass the attending emergency vehicles. UPDATE – The young male motorcyclist has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for further treatment tonight after initially being rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-changing or threatening. Police have confirmed they were alerted to the incident at 16:29. Merstone Road has now reopened in both directions. UPDATE THURSDAY – Police have launched an appeal for witnesses – https://www.islandecho.co.uk/witnesses-appeal-launched-after-motorcyclist-injured-in-merstone-crash/.
