A man who was seriously assaulted in Sandown last weekend, during the middle of the Scooter Rally ride-out, remains in hospital, with Police now appealing for the public’s help.
It was just before 14:00 last Sunday (24th August) that a 44-year-old man was reportedly assaulted and punched to the ground, with officers locating the injured male at the junction of High Street and Albert Road.
He was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital with serious head injuries, as first reported by Island Echo.
Detectives were called to the scene with the area taped off for a while whilst investigations took place.
Now, almost a week later, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary say that the man remains in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.
A 41-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on conditional bail until 24th November pending further enquiries.
Investigating officer, DC Clare Maycock says:
“This assault has led to the victim being seriously injured and he remains in hospital.
“Officers have carried out enquiries in the area, but we still need your help to progress our investigation. Anyone with video doorbell or dashcam footage from the area at the time who hasn’t already spoken to us should contact us as soon as possible. Your video may show the victim or the person that assaulted him in the area, even if it didn’t capture the incident itself.
“We’re also keen to speak to any other witnesses in the area who haven’t already come forward”.
