Witches, wizards and spooky surprises are heading to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway this October half term, with free entry to Havenstreet station and a special offer allowing up to 3 children to travel free on the Halloween Express.
The railway is transforming its historic Havenstreet station into an enchanted world of magic and steam for its new ‘Witches, Wands & Whistles’ event, running daily from today (Saturday) until Saturday (31st October).
Families will be able to enjoy live entertainment and soak up the Halloween atmosphere without paying an admission fee, although steam train rides, the pumpkin patch and selected craft materials will be charged separately.
One of the biggest attractions will be the Halloween Express, which will take passengers on a journey through the autumn Isle of Wight countryside aboard heritage steam trains, with creepy displays to spot along the route.
Under the railway’s ‘Kids Go FREE’ offer, up to 3 children can travel free with every full-paying adult ticket purchased.
Train tickets will also include a small pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and Halloween goody bags for children, complete with an activity sheet encouraging youngsters to count the spooky sights they discover.
Those taking part will have the chance to win a family return ticket to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
Back at Havenstreet, the Great Halloween Pumpkin Patch will give families the opportunity to choose their own pumpkin, with an on-site carving marquee available.
Youngsters can also enrol in Wizard School, take part in magic and circus skills workshops, and enjoy magic shows and giant bubble displays.
A spooky crafting marquee will offer hands-on activities including making witches’ broomsticks, decorating magic wands and creating Halloween-themed cakes.
Elsewhere around the station, friendly ghouls, scary stilt walkers and interactive potion-making stations will add to the Halloween fun.
Visitors are also being encouraged to dress up in their spookiest Halloween costumes for the occasion.
The event runs daily until Saturday (31st October), with free admission to the station grounds throughout.
