South coast horse trainer Gary Moore will enter the new National Hunt campaign with hope of a more decisive impact for his charges in the major events. His top horses competed well in the National Hunt season but failed to land the top prizes on offer at Cheltenham Festival.
Moore produced a number of fine horses to compete at those events and there were encouraging performances, although not quite enough to match the calibre produced by the leading trainers and yards of Willie Mullins, Nicky Henderson, and Henry de Bromhead, with the latter winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup for the second year in a row as highlighted by the IrishExaminer.com.
It is difficult for trainers from smaller yards to make a decisive impact, and it is impressive that Moore’s charges have come into the conversation for some of the top races at Cheltenham and elsewhere on the schedule. Editeur Du Gite
Editeur Du Gite was extremely impressive over the course of last season. He recorded two wins at Cheltenham Racecourse in the early stages of the campaign, beating out Stolen Silver in his first outing of the term at the venue before returning with a strong performance to win the Simon Claisse Handicap Chase, finishing four lengths ahead of his nearest rival. As a result of his performances, he was primed for a challenge in the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup.

Although Editeur Du Gite put in a decent display, he could only place in fourth, ending the race six-and-a-half lengths off the pace of the winner Global Citizen. The French thoroughbred ended his campaign in disappointing fashion as he was pulled up at The Melling Chase after weakening before the final fence. There is still a strong competitor in there and Moore might be tempted for his charge to have another run at the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup.
Goshen
Goshen hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2020 when he unseated Josh Moore on the final hurdle when he was destined for a dominant win in the Triumph Hurdle. He made strides to repair his reputation in the 2021/22 campaign after failed attempts to make a winning return to Cheltenham Festival in 2021.
There he competed in the Champion Hurdle and finished down in eighth place and then endured a similar result in the Irish Champion Hurdle. He didn’t have the best of starts to the 2021/22 season, but found his form in spectacular fashion to win the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown Park, defeating a talented field that included Guard Your Dreams as described by Planetsport.com.
Goshen then set the stage for another run at Cheltenham Festival by winning the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. However, Moore opted not to run his charge at Prestbury Park, leaving his future up for debate. He could return in 2023 for one final run at the Champion Hurdle to set his record at Cheltenham straight once and for all. It will be a difficult decision and Moore may want to see his performances in the early stages of the campaign before committing to a strategy for one of the prestigious events.
