Sanctuary volunteer Sarah Whitter has undertaken her greatest challenge yet – shaving off all her hair to raise money for new rescued tigers Softi and Toph!
After hearing about their horrendous plight on a terror transport to Russia, Sarah decided she wanted to shock people into fundraising for these wonderful animals.
Sarah is a huge supporter of the Sanctuary who over the years has raised a tremendous amount to care for and rehabilitate the rescued animals from their previous traumas. The challenges have always been extreme, but this 1 definitely stands out from the crowd!
Despite some last-minute nerves, Sarah bravely had the cut of the century last weekend, which you can watch below:
As the final hairs were falling, Sarah joked:
“I did get a text yesterday from Chris Packham, our Trustee, wishing me all the best and he’s actually given me tips on new hairstyles if I decide to go down the punk route!”
Softi and Toph were discovered starving and terrified in the back of a horse box with 8 other tigers, destined for a fate unknown in Russia. 1 Tiger had unfortunately already succumbed to the horrendous conditions, being found dead in her crate. Rescued at the border, their journey is now complete as they can live out their lives in safety at the Sanctuary in Sandown.
At the time of writing, Sarah has so far raised £5,448 of her £6,500 target. To support Sarah’s fundraiser and help Softi and Toph rehabilitate, follow this link.
