A computer error has forced the closure of Portsmouth Harbour this afternoon (Thursday), with the King’s Harbour Master unable to authorise vessels to enter or exit the harbour.
Wightlink’s car ferry and Fastcat services to and from Fishbourne and Ryde Pier Head are affected as a result of the technical issue, which is out of the hands of the cross-Solent operator.
Customers are being informed of the situation, with updates to follow throughout the afternoon as and when they become available from the King’s Harbour master.
All customers are asked to check in as usual for their booked sailing time until otherwise advised.
A spokesperson for Wightlink has said:
“We will do all we can to get customers to and from the Island”.
UPDATE @ 15:49 – The situation has now been resolved; however, there are some delays to services.

How long does it take a King’s Harbourmaster to turn a computer off and on again?
Life was better pre computer bookings, just wait
until digital ID’s are mandated.
“We won’t be going anywhere”
Not if we dissent against a totalitarian government, anyway.
That is very true, but only a handful of people
turned up a few weeks ago in Newport to protest.
It will take millions of people, not an handful.
More of this is coming say no to id cards..
Our lives will be finished if digital ID’s are mandated
look what is happening in C hina
