6-year-old Finley Manser-Grundy, of Wightlink Cycle Race Team, had a stellar weekend of racing, starting with the Little Fodders Race in the Forest of Dean.
Competing in the Under 8s category, Finley took a 10-second lead on his first run on the fast, flowy, and dusty track, then he improved his time again and put down a 4 seconds PB on his second run, winning his age group and setting one of the fastest times across all categories.
The next day, Finley headed to the B1KE Downhill Race at Rogate Downhill Park. Finley was racing in the 8-13yr category.
The park was super sandy and a technical track with steep drops and roots sections. He was on one of the smallest wheel sizes of the day and managed to beat lots of older riders on bigger bikes down the hill. He confidently improved his time over the 2 runs and finished 13th out of 20 plus riders, all older than him.
Sonny Shuttleworth was also in action at the Little Fodders Race…
Competing on Countdown – his favourite trail – Sonny earned his first-ever podium, finishing 3rd in the under-12 category. The course was dry, fast, and flowing, making for some thrilling racing, with supporters lining the trail and cheering riders on. Among them were many of Sonny’s family and friends, adding to the great atmosphere.
Sonny is stoked about his result and already looking forward to the next round of downhill racing at the Forest of Dean.
Finally, Alfie Haydon was in action at Round 3 of the South West XC.
Starting off strong and sitting in second place, Alfie put in an acceleration to move into the lead at the top of the climb, heading into the crucial single track infront of his competition. Pushing hard and managing to pull a very comfortable gap, Alfie took a commanding victory!
He said:
“I had to keep my concentration high – with such a demanding course I was just trying not to throw it all away”.
