Wight Tri’s Nick Curwood secured an impressive 2nd place finish at the Brighton & Hove Multisport Festival after competing in his first-ever Brighton Duathlon last weekend (31st August)
The early morning saw both Nick and his wife Laura Curwood make the trip from the Isle of Wight to Brighton, with Laura cheering on from the sidelines after recently taking part in a Dragon Boat event the day before.
Originally scheduled as a triathlon, stormy sea conditions led organisers to cancel the swim leg, turning the race into a duathlon. Nick competed in the Super Sprint course, which involved a 10km bike ride followed by a 2.5km run along the seafront promenade.
Despite being the oldest competitor in his wave by around 20 years, Nick completed the bike section in 16 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by a 2.5km run in 11 minutes and 44 seconds. His total time of 29 minutes and 50 seconds earned him 2nd place overall, finishing just 30 seconds behind the winner.
Both Nick and Laura are expected to return for next year’s event.
