Wight Tri transformed Gurnard into a fast-paced arena last week, for Round 5 of the club’s Summer swim-bike-swim-run series.
The race took place on Friday 15th August, attracted 17 triathletes to the water and seafront.
Competitors tackled either a 250m or 500m swim followed by a 2.4km or 4.8km run, all while weaving past beach towels and inflatable toys in front of an amused crowd of sunbathers.
Jan Fletcher was the standout performer in the long-long course, finishing 1st in a time of 33:12 – just 18 seconds off her predicted finish. In the short-short category, Rob Young outran his father Roy to claim top spot with a time of 16:35.
Several new members also took part in the event, marking their first steps into the club’s multi-discipline racing.
Meanwhile, the Wight Tri Long Weekend – a self-managed Half Ironman challenge completed over 3 days – saw Loic Le Floch, Paul Taylor, Paula Griffiths, Kev Downer, Claire Squirrell and David Squirrell all take part. Only Loic and Claire completed all 3 disciplines.
The next event on the calendar is the Wight Tri Club Championships, scheduled for Monday 25th August at 16:00.
