Islanders hoping to wake up and pull back the curtains to discover a ‘Wight’ Christmas will be disappointed – as local forecasters IW Met Service says there will be no chance of snow this year. It’s said that the festive period will be fairly damp and mild. At times it will be rather windy with patchy rain. So without further ado, here is your Christmas forecast for 2023…
Christmas Eve
Sunday will see a cloudy start to the day with some patchy rain, but this will move away for a time to give some mostly dry but cloudy conditions. There will still be an outside chance of the odd patch of drizzle locally. Later in the day, there will be an increasing risk of some rain arriving, especially towards the evening. It will feel very mild for the time of year with temperatures of between 12-13c WSW 23-42mph, becoming 26-48mph during the afternoon.
Christmas Day
The big day will be a rather typical Christmas day with mild, damp weather throughout. The morning is likely to see some rain, although it will clear for a time with just a little patchy drizzle. Later in the day there will be an increasing risk of further rain moving in. Temperatures will be 12-13c WSW 24-42mph.
Boxing Day
Forecasters say there is considerable uncertainty for Boxing Day with a rather large divergence between the computer models, but at the moment it looks as though it will be a somewhat better day with mostly dry conditions through daylight hours, despite it being mostly cloudy throughout. Towards the evening there will be an increasing risk of rain pushing up from the South, especially during the overnight period. Temperatures will be slightly colder at 8-9c W or NW, 5-11mph becoming E or SE 3-6mph during the afternoon.
